Hello, I have windows xp professional and yesterday i was deleting some email
and lines of characters/colors starting rolling on the screen and some
message about "display driver" appeared then disappeared. Since then I can
only start windows up in safe mode and there is constant rolling lines and
characters. I cant get to internet in safe mode so i am having to use a
computer elsewhere to write this. I have tried re-installing the display
adapter that came with the computer a couple times but nothing changes. Any
information that anyone can give would be helpful. I am pretty clueless
about all this. When first starting up a blue screen with white writing
flashes for a split second but never long enough to read it. Thanks in
advance for any help.

Try re-installing the display driver. Get the latest driver from the
manufacture's web site and not from Microsoft's update.

1. Since you have already reinstalled the video drivers, you know it has to
be hardware. Shut down the computer and turn off the monitor. Examine the
monitor cable very carefully to see if there are bent pins. Reattach the
monitor to the computer and start up. Still having problems? Go to:

2. Attach the computer to a different, known-working monitor. Still having
problems? Go to:

3. Uninstall the video card, shut down the computer, swap out the video card
for a known-working one.

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional computer
repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

That's a symptom of a bad video card.

FWIW
Video tape it; then while viewing, frame forward to the message and
read it...
