Dismissed appointments continue to recur

After being "dismissed", a calendar appointment continues to display.
Similarly, if a calendar appointment is moved to another time within the same
day or to a totally new day, the "original" appointment continues to show at
the original time. How can I get a dismissed appointment to be forever
dismissed ?

Note: I have set the calendar to notify of new appointments every 15
minutes.N
Note: I am using Outlook 2000 SP-3

Start Outlook one time with the /cleanreminders switch.
Start->run->outlook.exe /cleanreminders.

Thank you, this corrected the problem. Do I need to run this command EVERY
time I launch Outlook ?
