disk image, restoration, driveimage xml

Hi there,

My 30GB laptop (fujitsu) boot (XP) disk is old and start to worry me a
bit, I did disk image backups using driveimageXML, which is free and
seems to be fine

So I made an image of my laptop drive , which seemed OK

then I used the program again to restore the image on a brand new
drive, 120GB (samsung) fitted in a 2.5' external USB box, the operation
was qualified as sucessfull by the backup program

then I swappep the disks and put the restored new disk in the laptop

seemed to start well, boot started, but soon , XP s boot stalled on an
(unusual when I boot) pale blue screen with "windows XP" inprinted ,
then , almost nothing, mouse pointer was still moving OK and the disk
would made some short noise every minute,

so , what did I wrong ?
thanks for any help

What happens if you install the disk in the laptop BEFORE you restore
the image?

It may just be that it doesnt like a 120G drive,
or that driveimage xml doesnt do a very good job.

I'd try the free trial of True Image to eliminate the last possibility.

maybe that is good part of it (?) I'm trying it , because I found out
that driveimage has a special plugin to install along with PE builder
when building a bootable XP , so this is probably not made for nothing

thanx , id try if my attempt with dixml on a PE XP boot cd fails, but
it should work (see answer above)

so far , driveimagexml is quite OK for imaging data disks , that the
only thing I did actually before , but I could made compressed , easy
to browse and retrieve images of HD

anyway , I d tell if it works OK (I hope it will, so far I seem to did
things not exactly the right way and still I have all may files on the
new disk and a partial boot, so , it should work ! ) and try the other
one then
