Disk Defragmenter

Just a general question about the disk defragmenter, basically on my former
computer the process of defraging my c drive took approximately 1-2 hrs (40
Gb HDD) On my newer computer it for some reason can take over 14 hrs to
defrag my c drive!! (harddrive = 60 Gb) Is their a problem with the disk
defrag program or with something else!! On both machines i was running
windows xp and had a NTFS files system!! Any thorts would be greatly
appreciated, as 14 hrs + to defrag a harddrive seems odd and impractical!!

A volume must have at least 15% free space for defrag to completely and
adequately defragment it.
Disable antivirus if you have any.
Run it in safe mode.
Run Chkdsk to check the status report for the hard disk.

I have tried the steps that you have mentioned and running the chkdsk in safe
mode found no problems. Also running defrag in safe mode did not fix the
problem!! Also i forgot to mention that i have 71% free space on my volume
(c:). Unfortunately i am still to fix the problem!!
Is there anything else that i can try?? Any more input would be highly
appreciated
Cheers
