I am trying to defrag disk C, if that makes sence. I am cleaning up D and
when I tried to defrag C it said it cant. Next to C it says FAT. It says
that I need a different type of defrag system, like I need an upgrade or
something.
HELP!!!! PLEASE

What's the exact error message?

Volume (C:) has a 12-Bit FAT Partition
Disk Defragmenter does not support 12-Bit FAT Partition to use Dick
Defragmenter you must upgrade to a 16-Bit FAT, FAT 32, or NTFS file system.

This is exactly what it said. Does this help?

Rachel,

The "Convert" command can convert the partition to NTFS, but I have no
knowledge about how the conversion works from 12-bit FAT partition. I
believe you'll certainly get more help if you post this in the
windowsxp.general newsgroup. Sorry.

When I performed a defrag recently, I got a message that there were some
files that could not be defragmented. It's a large block about 3.5GB. How
can I find out what/where these files are so I can either delete them?

Thanks.

Joan,

Certain files such as the paging file, Restore snapshots can't be
defragmented.
