Disk Defrag

When I try to run a defrag I get the following error
message: "Disk defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is
scheduled to run on the volume: (C:). Please run
chkdsk /f."
I tried rebooting and it still happens. I typed chkdsk /f
in the run command and I get from cmd.exe:
"The type of file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system starts?" I selected no
and exited.

I ran that command and it is still not working. I have a vbs file that I use
to run defrag as well and it leaves me the following error message:
"Drive C: Defrag aborted with error level 6(System error: either the account
used to run defrag is not an administrator, there is a problem loading the
resource DLL, or a defrag engine could not be accessed. Check for proper
user permissions and run Sfc.exe to validate system files)"

My system went down yesterday and did a memory dump would this have caused
an issue?

Yes it could do. If, for example, files have become corrupted /damaged, then
you won't be able to run a defrag

Try doing the "check disk". It may take a couple of hours or so, when your
computer restarts, but should also correct problems on the drive
ie right-click c: in My Computer> Properties > Tools > Check Now (in error
checking) > Check BOTH boxes > ok

If the check disk fails then try it also in Recovery Console (eg viaWindows
CD ) (chkdsk command)

If Check Disk runs successfully then retry the defrag.
If not then make a note of Check Disk's error messages.

Take Yes instead, so that Chkdsk is properly set up for a run. Reboot
and let it run (it does it from a blue screen and then reboots again)
