Disk cleanup

When I do disk clean up and defrag my computer. It shows
when i select download programs, Temporary internet files
and compress old files that total amount of disk space i
gain is 439,684K. Will it hurt for me to choose these??
And will it help speed up my computer. I downloaded
spyware killer and found 130 and deleted them. But
computer is slow...Can anyone help?? Thanks

Marcia, anything that is showing up in the To Clean Window is safe to
choose. I would also try these
sites to check for virus, trojans, spyware and adware.

I wouldn't compress anything. Compression is more of a niusance
than anything else. Deleting temporary files is usually safe. The
only exception is right after you install a new program, but
before you reboot. Otherwise, temporary files just take up space
and should be deleted.

The slowness of your computer has nothing to do with these extra
files. It's caused by some program or driver you've got running in
the background that is consuming all your resources, or by having
too many programs running automatically at startup.

I installed spyware killer. It detected 130 which i
deleted. Now I am trying to load norton internet security
but when i try to register it and open it the screen
blinks and goes away. Any ideas on that? Also I was told
to hit alt control delete and look at all the processes.
How do i know what's running or what is ok to get rid
of??? Help!!!!!!!!
