Disk Cleanup Gremlin

Stephan

For some time now I have been unable to get the Disk
Cleanup program to work on my "C" Drive. When I attempt to
run the tool the progress window indicates that the
process is 10% complete and that the program is "Scanning:
Compress old files"...This screen will remain static for
24 hours if I let it. The cleanup tool works fine on
my "D", "E", and "F" drives, which are all data storage
drives: they usually complete the scan in 4 or 5 minutes.
When I am attempting to clean the "C" drive, the hard-
drive indicator light remains on and steady, and no other
programs are affected except in terms of the time they
might take to do tasks. The "C" drive is set at 12gb and
is about half full. I keep all programs on the "C" drive.
The system is an Intel 1.8gb P4 custom build. As far as I
know everything about Windows is running OK, and I am
flummoxed by this annoying glitch. Any help is
appreciated.

Hi Stephan,

You may want to apply the workaround outlined in the following Microsoft Knowledge
Base Article. The article was written for Windows XP, but the method also works for
Windows 2000.
