Hi all,

I've been having difficulty running disk cleanup lately.
It gets stuck the minute I fire it up, at the progress bar
where it's scanning my hard drive to determine how much
space it can free up. This is at the very beginning,
before I even get a chance to pick what I want to clean
up. After a few seconds the hard drive light stops
blinking, so it's not actually accessing my hard drive.
But in the task manager it says that Disk Cleanup is
eating up 99% of my CPU capability. I even let it run
overnight for 7 hours - it spent all 7 hours doing nothing
but using up 99% of the CPU. Anyone have any suggestions?

7 hrs., any xp utility on a normal use computer wont take but 20 mins. or less
end the program if youre not getting anywhere.Try going to run, type:cm
in cmd type:CHKDSK C: /R Agree to restart,then type:EXIT restart computer.

See the good tips in the C section at Kelly's link, below. Scroll down to...
"Restore Disk Cleanup - cleanmgr (Line 84)" and the items below.

Hi Brian,

Disk Cleanup freezes during the Compressed File Phase: This edit corrects
the problem:

Disk Cleanup - Compressed Old Files Freezes (Line 48)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
