Disk Cleanup and Win2000

I have a relative who just bought a custom-built PC running Windows
2000 Professional. Whenever I run Disk Cleanup, it takes 10 minutes for it
to load, always 'freezing' at the checking compressed files stage, even
though Disk Cleanup is set not to delete them. Eventually it gets past that
stage and displays what is available for deletion. Anyway, why would it
take so long? On my computers, running XP Home and ME, Disk Cleanup takes
about 8 seconds to load.
