disk clean up and defragment

hi,

the computer wont finish disk clean up or defragment. i check the status of the program and it shows running but it wont finish

what can i do to get the programs running again

Try disconnecting from the Internet and disabling both your AV's file check
and your firewall. If that fails, try it in safe mode.

what are AV's file check?

He means that you need to disable your anti-virus program while you run the
defragmenter. Usually this means right-clicking on the anti-virus program on
your system tray and look for a command like Disable or Shut Down or
something like that. Usually, doing a defragment in Safe Mode is best, if a
bit long-winded since it ensures that nothing is running that you don't
need.

Don't forget to run checkdisk before you defragment.
