Disk Check

Disk check runs at startup. It races through to 73% then I get an error
message. The message flashes on and off the screen so rapidly, that I
cannot read it. The computer restarts and same process, I'm in a loop. If I
cancel the diskcheck the computer will continue to startup. When I try to
defrag the drive, I get a message that the drive cannot be defragged because
check disk is scheduled. How do I correct this problem. Thanks

Hi,

Click start/run, type cmd and click ok. From the prompt, run "chkntfs /d"
(without the quotes) and hit <enter>. This will reset the flag to run the
disk checker. You can then check the event viewer (start/run eventvwr.msc)
for some clues as to what's happening and why in the system and application
logs.

Thanks Rick, I tried chkntfs /d, but I didn't see any change. I checked
event viewer, don't know that it make any difference. Bottom line when I
restarted chkdsk completed the disk scan 100% as well as completing phase
1-5. I appreciate the help and welcome the learning experience.
