In a Dell 8200 desktop machine:
Using a Maxtor 40GB hard drive as Disk 0 and loading XP
Home Edition on it, it has a 39MB FAT32 (EISA
configuration) partition ahead of the C drive NTFS
partition on Disk 0. This boots up and runs well.
When I use the 80 GB Western Digital drive as Disk 0 and
load XP on it, it does not have the 39MB FAT 32
partition, it just has the C drive NTFS partition. This
also boots up and runs well.
When writing all zeros to the Maxtor 40GB drive, then
restoring the same Maxtor 40GB image to it as Disk 0,
using Acronis True Image software, the machine boots and
runs well.
When I write all zeros to the WD 80GB drive and then
restore the Maxtor 40GB image to the WD 80GB drive as
Disk 0, using Acronis True Image software as above, it
will not boot up, it just loops.
Any idea why all this happens?
