Disguising email address in Newsgroups?

Try this for an overview Dianne.

Munging Your Email Address
http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm

As you can see below, my name and e-mail address is totally munged, but
there are a variety of ways to do this. Some persons will put their e-mail
address that's a genuine address, but will add or change elements
(deliberately) which can be removed by a person so as to actually be able to
contact someone, but to avoid an automated e-mail address "harvester" Bot.

For instance: Dia(nn)eATnetzeroDOTcom. or (e-mail address removed)

The one's you are seeing that say anonymous blah-blah are being posted
through the MS-CDO (collaborative data object) Web Page Interface, unlike
you who are using OE to access these newsgroups. What you would do to alter
or "munge" your info (name and /or address) would be as follows:

1) with OE open, access the tools menu>accounts>news tab>properties button.
2) Within the General tab of News group properties>user name and address
fields, you would enter the name and address of your choice.
3) You may receive a message display that could say "the e-mail address that
you've entered doesn't appear to be a valid one. Use it anyway?" Click Yes.
It's obvious it's not valid, you just pre-fabricated it! ;-D
Actually this more refers to the address if you add unusual characters or
place them in odd locations, or if it exceeds a certain length. For
example: bet_sy.Bunkie.and.ni_ni@up_the_hill.com

You're most welcome Dianne; happy to help. I did notice (too late) that you
had utilized one form of "munging" already just as I was clicking *send*.
You are a very wise person to have done so. ;-)

Regards,
