I have Windows XP. My software does not show my dvd or
cdrw drives. The hardware manufacturer, HP, using a
diagnostic can see the drives, but they say that Windows
cannot. I have cleaned up my registry using Registry
Mechanic but that did not work. Any suggestions, please?

Contact HP.

Look in the bios. Are they on the 2nd ide channel and
that channel is not set to anything, or say off.
Set it to autodetect and see what happens.
