When I try to copy a file off my laptop to a disc I get the message: 'E:\*.*'
isn't accessible, the folder amy be located in an unavailable location,
protected with a password or the file name contains a / or \.

What type of "disc"? If a CD or DVD, XP can't copy to them directly;
that's a function of your burner software. So start up Nero, or
whatever software came with the burner and use it to burn to the "disc".

It's very hard to answer until you tell us the following things:

1. What do you mean by a "disc"? Hard drive? Floppy disk? CD? DVD?
Something else?

2. Is "E:" what you are trying to copy from or copy to?

3. Exactly how are you trying to do the copy, particularly if by
"disc" you mean a CD or DVD?
