disc clean up won't function

Whenever I try to use the disk clean up function it hangs up and when I check
the task manager it shows that the cleanmngr.exe(?) is maxing out the
computer usage. Help!

Line 48, Right column "Disk Cleanup - Compress..."
Save on Desktop.
Double click the icon once downloaded.
The icon can then be discarded.
