Anyone know how to restore a DC in a more efficient way?
The siuation is: a w2k server promoted to DC at a site
with golbal catelog local, this server is work as a dhcp,
dns, wins, file server and print server, it has symantec
server, and BrightStor backup installed. last time I have
to reinstall w2k, all the updates & sp4, tcp/ip setting,
dhcp, dns, wins, apps, run dcpromo, then only restore data
(shared, users folder) to d: drive. it takes a long time,
is there any way that I can restore system state and
registry to this server from backup? I did it one time and
it crash on me.

Sounds like you need to contact Brightstor about the backups. You should be
able to backup and restore everything, including system state to the DC
without issue. The only thing that would really come into play if the
backup is 100% functional is whether or not there are other DCs in the
environment. Then you would have things like authoritative restores and
roles to worry about.

I agree with Joseph.

You should be able to install Windows 2000 with a minimal install on a bare
machine, and restore your backup, and have a fully functioning server as it
was when it was backed up.
