DISAPPEARS, AND NO "NEW WINDOW"

If any one could help me with these problems I'd appreciate it

I have an HP Pavilion with IE 6. Lately 2 problems have been occuring with the browser. The first involves clicking on the IE icon to open another page. That second page, initiated by clicking the icon, closes up and disappears within 2 minutes. The second problem is the inability to sometimes open a link by right clicking and then selecting "Open in a new window." I do the right clicking and choose "Open..." and no new window/screen/page opens.
