disappearing user profiles - HomeXP

I have three user profiles set up. I am now having trouble with one of the
profiles - it is gone! The folders and files (favourites, desktop, cookies,
documents) still reside under "Documents and Settings", but when the
particular profile is chosen and logged into, all I get is the initial
screen as if a new profile has been set up. Any suggestions?
