I have an XP Professional work station. When I click on
an icon to connect to the server everything works fine
until I don't connect for awhile or overnight. The next
morning I click on the icon and it won't connect to the
server and the message I get is "the shortcut is moved or
not there". Then I reboot and everything is fine again
until the next morning. Then the same problem. It seems
like when the computer is idle and not connected to the
network (ie overnight when I am gone) some resource in XP
(I think) causes the problem. It will stay that way until
I reboot. No such problem on our Windows 98 machines.

I would say that your power settings are set to allow the
network card to be powered off to save power (a setting
available on desktops, not just laptops). Use the control
panel / Power icon to make the appropriate changes.
