disappearing files

Last night I was answering a routine e-mail and suddenly, without warning,
all of my outlook folders vanished, except a few items still sitting in my
sent items folder. They have never reappeared. Does anyone have any idea what
might have happened or if I can recover all my lost e-mail messages?

same thing happened to me with outlook express... inbox empty and personal
folders gone. Can't figure out how this could happen.
