disappearing files and folders

Dozens of files and folders on my computer are suddenly
invisible. I know that they're still somewhere in my
system, because they're music files and they still show up
in both Winamp's and Windows Media Player's media
libraries. But I don't see them in My Computer and a
Windows search for "*.mp3" doesn't turn them up either.

Anyone know what's going on?

Deleted media files continue to be displayed until the player's library is
updated.
