Disappearing Applications

Over the last few months i've found that various windows components have been
disapearing. For instance the first thing i noticed was the volume
control(lucky for me my PC has another one), then the windows games went and
now just recently MSPaint is gone... i'm getting rather worried.

I thought about re-installing windows but i don't know if that is possible
because it says i have a newer version installed, will i lose any of my
drivers or files? will my games still run? if i re-install windows from boot?

Its annoying because i can't play certain old games that need mspaint to
open BMP files. what should i do? do I have some sort of freaky virus? norton
doesn't think so... but who knows.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

No, not a virus. This is common via third party programs, especially
cleaners. What do you have running in the background or per your selection?

Um I have heaps of stuff, Kazza, warez, I use a spyware cleaner some times.
norton antivirus and internet security. and various other random processes
that I dont know what they are. would re-installing be a good idea?

Exactly, there are certain cleaners that remove the components, etc. Thus
my post and mention.
