Disappearing 'Add New Connection'

I've got an old laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600) which I would like
to configure with a wireless PCMCIA to give my daughter web access via
my wireless router / modem.

After dusting it off and firing it up, I tried to make a new
connection, and I'm baffled to see that there aren't any existing
connections listed in 'Network & Dial up Connections' - and there
isn't even a 'Make New Connection' icon... it's completely empty.

Anybody got any ideas on what the problem is, and how I should fix it?

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago and
it centered around NOT having my nic card drivers
installed. I loaded 2000 and apparently the win2k setup
disc did not have a driver for my nic card which is
integrated on my motherboard. It wasn't until i ran the
motherboard cd-rom setup routine that the nic drivers
were loaded. After that , the icon immediately appeared
when i restarted. robert
