I am trying to install Norton Internet Security. The
directions say for Windows XP,to disable the firewall by
going to Start>control panel>network connections>right
click properties. This is supposed to bring up a
properties window. However, nothing happens when I right
click or otherwise try to open properties. How do I
disable the firewall? Rick

Select the connection with a right click and select
properties, then the advanced tab.

Try one of these:

Start>Control Panel>Network Connections. Right click on
your Local Area Connection and select properties. Choose
the Advanced tab. Uncheck the firewall box.

OR

Right Click on My Network Places and select properties.
Right click on your Local Area Connection and select
properties. Choose the Advanced tab. Uncheck the
firewall box.

OR

Right Click on My Computer and select Manage. Click on
the + next to Services and Applications. Click on
Services. Look for the Application Layer Gateway
Service. Right click on it and select Stop.

OR

Go to Start>Programs>Administrative Tools and select
Services. Look for the Application Layer Gateway
Service. Right click on it and select Stop

The last two will only stop it until the next reboot. To
stop it permanently, set it to Disable.

What are you right clicking on? It ought to be the icon for the
connection concerned in the Network Connections window - Properties of
the popup menu; Advanced page, uncheck the box.

Which view are you using for the Control Panel off of the Start Menu? If
you have My Network Places on your desktop, right click that
icon/properties/right click your connection/properties/advanced.
