Disabling Windows Messenger

How do I prevent Windows Messenger Version 4.6.0082 from
running on a Windows XP Home Edition computer. Microsoft
referred me to KB Article 811713 which is currently not
available. I am a novice computer user and would greatly
appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
