disabling screen saver policy.

hello

i am using a w2k box, my user is a member of the admin group.
we have a domain policy that does not let me disable the screen saver
(actually, i cant prevent the computer from locking itself, even
without a screen saver). this policy does not enable me to see dvd as
it locks every 10 minutes.

i tried running gpedit.msc but it doesn't show any policy were
applied.

any idea ?

cheers,
erez.

It might not be a policy. Just try right clicking a blank desktop spot and select
properties/screensaver to see if it is configured. To see what policies are applied
to you as a user on that computer try running gpresult /u /v. --- Steve

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321709 --- info on gpresult.

if i rigght-click the desktop -> properties -> screensaver, i get the
'password protected' box on, but in gray so i can not change it.
changing the registry at 'Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control
Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaverIsSecure' does not seem to change anything,
even if i reboot after it (and i saw my changes were applied and
stayed at the value i applied even after reboot). same with
'ScreenSaverIsActive'.
but, changing 'ScreenSaverTimeOut' seems to work ! (though the display
properties still displays the old value).

any idea how i regain control of the screen saver at the display
properties ?

cheers,
erez.

Hmm. I would try to change the settings to what you want using Local Group
Policy via gpedit.msc. Go to user configuration/administrative templates/control
panel/display and configure the settings there to see if it helps. --- Steve
