Disabling Netbios to reduce network traffic

A client has disabled netbios to reduce network traffic on all computers.
When done on 1 pc it loses access to network resources like mapped drive,
shares, printers etc. The client is running XPSP2. All other computers
respond fine with Netbios turned off. It is set as a DHCP client and can get
out to the internet fine. You can remap the network drives with the ip
address, however they would like to use the DNS names. He has used the netsh
int ip reset command and states the log is empty after doing so. Aside from
enabling Netbios any suggestions? This one pc utilizes over 30% of the
bandwidth with it enabled.

Try:

1. Make sure the Local Area Connection is configured to append primary and
parent DNS suffix, or

2. Map with Fully Qualified Domain Name.

Tried both and primary and parent was already checked and mapping with the
FQDN had the same error "network location cant be reached". Any other
suggestions?

Thanks.

Hmmm - maybe it's resolving names to the wrong IP. Check hosts file.

The host file was empty. I added the DNS server and ip as i was
troubleshooting. Adding the entry didnt change anything.
