Disabling Email Scanning

Hi

Someone has suggested a possible 'cure' for the many Win Mail probs I am
experiencing would be for me to:-
1, Uninstall my McaFee
2. Then install another anti-virus prog ("AVG") disabling "just the part
that scans email".

Sorry if I am being dumb but surely that would result in my leaving myself
wide open to even more probs (i.e. importing viruses)?

Cheers,
John

Norton software tends to get its tentacles into everything,
which often means its bad effects won't cease until it is
completely uninstalled; additionally, the special removal
utility often needs to be used:

There is some anecdotal evidence that the newer Windows
Live Mail is more resistant to corruption from aggressive antivirus
programs, so an alternative for you would be to try it:

Great question john, and great answer Gary. My error code is:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'still testing', Account: 'incoming.verizon.net',
Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Do I need to uninstall everything Norton related? Even the system
checks, backup, etc? And is the AVG protection adequate? I hope this
does the trick, it's frustrating to "listen" but not "talk" with the
WinMail.

Thanks,

Aggie79
Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet
provider's equipment to another before it reaches the server?
If so, such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause
problems for spammers.

Also, you might check your setup:

Since Norton may have corrupted that mail account, delete the
account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

If it still does not work, upgrade to Windows Live Mail, as I
previously suggested.

You're welcome.
