Disable task pane and toolbar buttons

Hugh

Everytime I start up Word 2003 or open a new doc in it,
the task pane pops up on the right side. How do I
disable this default behavior?

Also, PDFMaker buttons show up on the toolbar everytime I
start up Word 2003. How do I disable this behavior?

TIA

To disable task pane, go to Tools/Options/View and
clear the check mark next to "Startup Task Pane."

To disable toolbar, got to View/Toolbars and clear the
check mark next to the specific toolbar.

Well I love the TaskPane and have since it was introduced in Office XP and
completely the opposite to you, I have patched my version so that the TP
stays permanently opened. As well as listing documents and templates, it can
be toggled to show Styles and is a highly useful for productivity. I
recommend that you bear with it for a while before dismissing it completely.

That dam PDF maker! I hate the way it is so bloody in-your-face. You will
need to go to the Word Start-up folder and rename the PDF.dot file as
PDF.BAD. To use PDF, you will need to use File, Print and select PDF as the
printer. Or you could create your own macro tool to automate this - not
forgetting to return the default printer.
