Disabling Microsoft task pane

Hello,
I want to disable Microsoft office "getting started task
pane" in Microsoft office 2003 that comes up in Microsoft
Word at start-up.

Can anyone help me with this?

Dreamer, it's Tools > Options > View. Uncheck Startup Task Pane. OK.

This option did not work. Thank you for the suggestion
though.I still comes up when I start word.

Suzzanne,

It did work! One of the settings Hide task pane after
opening or creating a document. I checked that one and it
worked.

I thought that unchecking "show task pane at startup"
would do it, but it did not.
