Well, if you are intent on keeping Acrobat Reader installed then use its
option to disable its integration with IE. Alternatively, use something
like BHO Demon to disable the Acrobat plug-in without having to
uninstall Acrobat.
I have Acrobat Reader 6.0 installed but I do *NOT* want PDF file (from
links) opening inside IE. I've encountered too many times when the
reader will lockup (I see its process but the reader never opens) which
can be corrected usually by exiting all instances of IE but then I lose
my place at all those sites (I usually have many instances of IE open at
a time while researching, training, keeping up to date, or whatever).
Although the Acrobat Reader plug-in is still enabled in IE, it isn't
used. Since the link is to a .pdf file, the filetype association has
Acrobat Reader open for the downloaded file. When you install VisView,
or whatever, you'll need to configure it to usurp the .pdf filetype
association (unless you only want it to work within IE and if it
provides its own BHO plug-in).
