Does anyone know if you can disable the default CD-RW
burning software that came with Windows XP? If you can,
how do you re-enable it again.

Thanks

Hi
Try this go /My computer/view system
information/hardware/device manager/click on the DVD/CD/
CD.RW tab then click on the one you wont to use then
click on the action tab at the top of page/then
properties/ at the bottom of the page you will find what
you are looking for

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I was looking for a
way to disable the burning software not disable the CD-RW
hardware.

Any ideas on disabling the XP burning software? (I am
looing for a way to enable it but if I can disable
it...then I should be able to re-enable it)

Thanks

CD-Rom Burning - Disable Native CD burning in XP

Right click the CD in My Computer/Properties/Recording/Uncheck "Enable CD
recording on this drive

That will still allow you to use Nero, Roxio etc.

My Computer - r-click the drive icon, Properties, and on the recording
page there is an 'Enable' check box. This relates *only* to the inbuilt
burning.

Not that if you use a third party 'packet writing', UDF package, like
InCD or Direct CD you should have this turned off, as they will
conflict. Note also that it is *not* a packet writing technique (see
