I have a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-840S that can be used as a CD-RW drive.

However, once it is set as a DVD-RAM, it cannot function as a CD-RW
but only as a CD-R.

How can I enable the CD-RW drive and disable the DVD-RAM?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

That surpirses me! I have a different make of DVD-RAM drive, It
works correctly providing which type of media I place in it. CD-R, CD-
RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM media all work corrrectly.

You don't set an optical drive to any particular write mode. It is
controlled by the software that's used to burn the files. XP's native tools
support writing to DVD-RAM, CD-R, and CD-RW. 3rd party tools are needed to
write any other form of DVD or to use a CD as a giant floppy disk.

So what exactly is the problem you're experiencing?
