Disable LPT and Serial Ports in BIOS ... helpful?

I have arrived at the point where I am no longer using any LPT
(parallel) or Serial Port devices on my computer. Everything now
seems to connect through USB or Firewire now days.

My question: Is there any advantage to going into BIOS and
"DISABLING" the LPT and Serial Ports, i.e., will it free IRQs for
other devices ... make boot up faster because the computer doesn't
waste time looking for devices on these ports, etc.

WinXP SP1 on an ASUS P4PE MB.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this issue.

Not really, there may be a slight increase in performance, but only if your
system already has poor performance.
