Disable LAN disconnected icon

I know this sounds a little trivial but is it possible for me to remove the
"LAN disconnected" icon from the taskbar? I've unchecked the "notify me
when this connection has limited or no connectivity" box in properties but
it still appears in my taskbar. I have a wireless adapter plugged into my
machine and I will most likely never use Ethernet LAN.

Thanks.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Right-click the LAN connection,
select "Disable"

When you run Windows update, it may tell you an update is available for the NIC because it's
disabled. Just ignore it, or check the box, "Hide..."
