We just got new laptops running XP SP2. Whenever we open up an Explorer
window, the Folder toolbar / pane appears. There doesn't appear to be an
option to disable this. "My Computer" won't even default to the Common Tasks
pane when we set it to do so.

Is there a registry setting that will fix this?

Thanks,
Jon

Nevermind, I have figured it out.

Here's the workaround to to turn off the annoying default split-pane view of
Windows File Explorer (for opening My Computer and folders).

1. Open the Tools -> Options view in the File Explorer.

2. Click on File Types tab.

3. Click on the File Types column to sort by File Types, then scroll down
and find Folders.

4. Click on Advanced, highlight "open", and click "Set Default"
