DirectX problems

Ok first off I DONT need information on the difference
between the newest DirectX versions compared to the older
ones.

I need to know can I downgrade from DirectX 9.0 to
DirectX 8.1???

I need 8.1 to run a $400 program and im not going to get
another one. My new system came with 9.0 already in it
and I cannot install 8.1 when I run DirectX 8.1 setup.

Any ideas why I cant?

And again DirectX 8.1 is REQUIRED to run it, so dont tell
me that it should run better with 9.0.

DirectX 9.0 is a system component and cannot be uninstalled.
In rare cases, some software titles are "version coded" to accept
only a single version of DirectX. These titles are almost always
updated by the software publisher to fix this behavior. Check
with the website of the publisher of your software for an update.
