DirectX 9b

I want to install DirectX 9b, which I have just
downloaded but I get the following error on installation.
THE SOFTWARE YOU ARE INSTALLING HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS
LOGO TESTING TO VERIFY COMPATIBILITY WITH WINDOWS XP.
THIS SOFTWARE WILL NOT BE INSTALLED.
This product was downloaded from the Microsoft web sitem
for Windows XP. What is wrong?

I had the same message when i installed it too...

I think its a bit Weird that Microsofts own product is
not tested on The Windows Logo Testing... I guess its
just a bug in the installation so it thinks that its not
tested?

It may be due to the fact that it's a Beta version. But then again, even
beta versions don't display any kind of 'untested' warning. Personally, I
didn't get any errors when installing 9b, but then again I auto-installed it
via the Windows Update Control Panel, and that was a while ago.

People should email Microsoft and tell them about the problem. It's
obviously something that would affect their ability to distribute their own
software.

What makes you think it's a beta version? The 9.0b is a release version and
NOT beta. If you are getting this warning, it's possible your Cryptographic
service is not running correctly (this is required for certification
verification). Go to the services applet in the Control Panel and look for
Cryptographic service. If it's not started, start and and set it to
automatic so it starts up next time you reboot. If it IS started, stop &
restart it...

Hi Lorne,
I have just tried what you suggested but with no luck.
When I ran the installation again I got the same error
message, but with one extra this time which was "DirectX
did not copy a required file". As this is a 2 part
operation with a small download then a second larger
download how can I clear the second files and start
again, if indeed this is the problem?.

Go to the main DirectX site (www.microsoft.com/directx) and download the
entire package & not just the web installer. Then try again... You'll
probably also find it on a magazine disk somewhere or a latest game...

Hey Ian,
Did anybody help you out with this problem?
I've just bought and installed Flight Simulator 2004, but
it says I require Directx 9. I tried to load it from the
Flight Sim CD but it said there was an error. So I went
to DirectX website and downloaded it. A quarter of the
way into the "copying files" process, a window flashed up
saying "DirectX did not copy a required file" and that
was that... installation failed. It didn't even give me a
clue what the file was, although at the time when it
bombed out, the progress bar had stopped on
filename "dpvvox.dll" I just wondered if this is what you
were experiencing, and if anybody had helped you because
I'd be mighty grateful if you could bail me out.
Regards
Rich.
