DirectX 9.0c won't install/Logo error

Sheila

I recently uninstalled DirectX 8.01 and downloaded
DirectX9.0c from Microsoft.com. Midway through the
install it gave me this error message:

"The software you are installing has not passed Windows
Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows
XP... This software will not be installed. Contact your
system administrator."

How is this possible, if I'm downloading from
Microsoft.com? Also, I am the only user on the computer
and am profiled as being the "computer admin."

I did a system restore, made sure DirectX 8.01 was still
there, then tried to update without an uninstall. Same
thing. I also tried to download DirectX 9 SDK. Same
thing.

I do NOT currently have SP2 on my machine. Is that a pre-
requisite for DirectX 9.0c.

Can anyone help me?

This is a common problem due to crytographic services being turned off. Try
this:

Right Click-
my computer | manage | services and applications | services. Then go to
cryptography services properties and make sure the service is started and
startup type is set to automatic.
- If you are running Windows on a FAT32 drive, run scandisk

Thanks Kevin, unfortunately this didn't work.

I checked my settings and this was already set
to "automatic" and "started." I changed them, then set
them BACK, just in case. I got the exact same error
message. I also got a message saying that one of the
files didn't load.

What now?
