Masterplan is to back up "me stuff" on to a HD

Put it on the shelf together with a booklet detailing what the hell is on it

Sounds only fool..ish to me, because that list will be outdated the very
minute you add or delete a file.

theory is i wont be changing the drive contents
hence the list

Under a DOS-alike (DOS, Windows up to XP, maybe Vister) try
dir /b /s [whatever path and files you want] > list.txt

Under a unix-alike then you'd need to use some formulation of
"find" and a path/ filename specification.
