Direct X Error: Problem getting input info, result code = 0x80004005

I have a problem running games now, i have a ati radeon
9600 and games used to work great and then one day i got
a miscellaneous error running one of my emulators: Error
intializing DirectInput
You may need to install DirectX 8.0a or higher located at
www.microsoft.com/directx

so i run: dxdiag, and find the following error:
Error: Problem getting input info, result code =
0x80004005

besides that in control panel: the game controls icon
will not open, which disables me from adding any new
controllers or configuring the ones i already have on my
compter,

any possible updates for this problem?

everything else is running fine and displaying correctly
most likly the problem is with DirectInput

by the way i already have direct x 9.0b , this is when
all the errors started!

I have the exact same problem! I can't reinstall DirectX 9.0c because
it's part of SP2. I also had this same problem on another machine as
well.

Dell 4700
Hauppage PVR250
Onboard Intel audio

No game contollers connected. Connecting one doesn't help.

The only thing that comes up on MS tech support is something about a
Gateway computer, neither of my machines are Gateways.

Hi, DJRobX.

We have no idea what you are talking about!

Please go back to the thread you are referring to and Reply to it, rather
than start a New conversation. As it is, we have no context from which we
can figure out what "exact same problem" you are having. :>( We'd like to
help, but we can't without more details from you.

In case it matters to you, I'm running a homebuilt computer with WinXP SP2
and DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904), according to DxDiag.exe. It passes all
the DxDag tests.
