direct x 9.0b wont install on my xp pro

direct x 9.0b wont install on my xp pro, when i go to install it it says that " This version of direct x is not compatable with the version of windows currently installed" at the microsoft site it says it is for xp which i have
any help would be appreciated

passed logo testing)

i tried all the information that was on that link you put me on to but unfortunatly none of this helped. The only thing that i can suggest is that the "not passed logo testing" bit never appeared. All it said was " This version of direct x is not compatable with the version of windows currently installed" so maybee its not a logo testing thing does this make any sens

That link is the only thing that I can find that applies.
Did you do everything listed?
Did Q817287: Critical Update install?

yes i did all that was listed there
No i couldnt find it but when it does the automatic scan thing it said that there is no crictical updates necesary
