Anybody purchased an NVidia or AMD(ATI) card directly from NVidia or
AMD(or previously the ATI site)? Good or bad experience?

Thanks,

Why would you want to do so? You could get lower prices elsewhere.

I agree. However, I have a friend who is dead set on a direct purchase
(don't know why) and I was trying to get some input for him.

Thanks,

i have and it went flawlessly. i got the mobo and x1900xtx crossfire from
them in a bundle and it was cheaper than anyone else could have done!

Seriously? I wouldn't have expected to score a very good deal from
them directly. What all was included in the bundle (or was it just the
mobo and x1900xtx crossfire)? Also, did you order it straight off the
ATI site or has this been complicated since AMD gobbled them up?

Anybody have any bad experience with this or is this the best way to
go?

Thanks for the response,

yes it was the crossfire bundle it was a x1900xtx 512 and a x1900xtx
crossfire on a a8r32mvp deluxe and no one could make the deal they gave me
at that time. it was 300 less than if i where to get a peace at a time!

That is the sort of person who will not take advice from somebody who
knows better. Save yourself some grief and say you couldn't get any
info here <g>.

nVidia doesn't make the cards. Of the card manufacturers, eVGA offers
direct-purchase through its web site. Not all the cards are in stock,
though, especially at the high-end.

ATi typically prices the cards 13-20% higher than other reputable online
retailers, and sometimes the flagship cards are not available due to limited
supply. From what I've seen ATi doesn't package the item any better or offer
better after-sales support than leading merchants like Newegg or NCIX.

In 2003, I bought a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB from ATi directly as part of a
trade-up program. Before ordering, I called ATi to ask a few questions, and
was quickly connected to a English-speaking representative. The card shipped
quickly enough and I was sent several emails along the way informing me of
the progress of the order. This is no different than any other reputable
merchant.

nope, but i know that ATI's RMA service is great.

From that point of view i already got one from ATI, as a RMA even :)

Btw. why would you want to buy right from NV or Ati ?
