Direct Connection of Win XP to WIN 2K computer

I have network cards in both my Win 2K desktop and my Win
XP laptop, and a crossover network cable. I can't seem to
figure out how to connect these to each other using this
direct cable. The network setup wizard in XP says I need
to make a network setup floppy but my laptop has no floppy
drive, and when I try to run the XP network setup CD on my
Win2K machine it says it only works for Win 95/98/ME.
Have searched the net and Knowledge base with no luck.
Argh. Help please.

Are you trying to share the internet connection?
If yes you will need to set up ICS
if no yo will need to set up a LAN, read below:

By default windowsXP/2K will auto generate an ip address called automatic
private address, you won't need any config since it auto generated the ip.
Simply connect them up with lan cables and make them in a same workgroup.
