Direct cable connection

This should be a simple question...
How do you transfer files from your old computer (e.g. Win98) to your shiny new WinXP system using a serial cable? I am looking for a solution that does not require 3rd party software. I have a null modem cable to effect the connection.

OK Carey, I did all that, but no luck. I also set up a null modem device for the COM port for direct cable connection. Was this the right thing to do?
