Direct Cable Connection

I am having problems with the direct cable connection using a USB cable. I
have read the other posts and this reference
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305621&Product=winxp.

Like several othe posts I an unable to locate the option for using USB cable
(or ethernet for that matter) to make the direct connection in the setup
wizard. I have read the above 8 part example which doen't addres the issue
of how to select/find USB calbe option - it only deals with a modem
connection as far as I can tell.
