Direct Cable Connection

Here's a puzzle. I am trying to establish a Direct Cable Connection between
my XP machine and my Windows 95 machine. The 95 machine would be the host
and the XP machine the guest. Both sides report that I have connected, yet
when I look for the 95 machine in My Network Places on the XP machine, it
doesn't show up.

By the way, yes, I have enabled file sharing on the 95 machine and have
specifically marked each drive as being shared with full permission.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Oh, yeah. Maybe the following symptom is a clue: While the 2 machines are
"connected," I am unable to utilize my Road Runner connection on the XP
machine. Whatever it's doing to try to connect to the other machine somehow
interferes with its ability to access the Internet simultaneously.

Thanks again!

If you are trying to arrange ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), then the
PC with the connection to the 'net (the XP PC in your case) must be the
server and the other PC(s) the clients. And, you can't reverse it, since
W95 does not contain ICS hosting support -- you'd need W98SE for that.
