Direct Access Component Error

After downloading SP2, each time I start up the computer,
I get the message "Direct Access Component has
encountered a problem and needs to close." Any
thoughts?

I seem to get this error message when I put a recordable CD in to my
writer. (Since SP2?)
I get it on startup if there has been a CD R/RW left in the drive.

I am using HP's DLA program for transferring data to CD and this now
takes out Windows Explorer in some instances (... co-incidence?)

I think that DLA may be involved but have not really started to
investigate.

Sounds like you're both talking about Windows XP SP2, in which case you
should be asking this in a newsgroup related to XP (they start
microsoft.public.windowsxp)

This newsgroup is for questions about Access, the database product that's
part of Office Professional.

Very helpful. I generally have a data disk in my drive
when I boot up.

I'm not particularly computer savvy so the following
question probably reflects that, but, are you saying
Windows Explorer also has a program for transferring data
to a CD and since we both use (I do as well) the HP's DLA
program for transferring data, that choice may be the
conflict? If so, is it possible to switch to Internet
Explorer's program (which I'm assuming does the same
thing) to remove the error message?

Thanks.

I think you just go to My Computer and right click the writer drive
letter. Deselect "Use DLA". On Properties (right click again if you need
to) select the recording tab and read the info and check "Enable CD
recording" In theory you should now be able to just write to CD like you
did with DLA but it will format discs differently so you may have
problems with old DLA formatted discs. I have not tried this so can not
vouch for any of this.

And...

I knew there was a reason why I used DLA instead of XP's inbuilt
recorder but had forgotten what it was!
It's here http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php which looks technical but is
quite readable.
(DLA does "all in one operation" packet writing while inbuilt XP does
"in two steps" session or multi session writing)
My DLA still works OK (famous last words...) in spite of the error
message which I think just effects the "recognising a inserted disk
thing"

I have the same problem but I have not found a solution. I kee
reporting it to MS but I don't think they care. I will call the loca
computer radio and ask them. I will post the solution if I find one.
